Super Rugby predictions 2019: Round two - winning margins and teams
Super Rugby 2019 started with a bang. Predictions, however, landed like a lead balloon. Upsets and winning margins beyond many pundits’ forecasts have left some Superbru standings looking a bit grim.
But, we go again.
As with last week, these Super Rugby predictions are based entirely on data.
Doctor David Scott, a man who has held positions like President of the New Zealand Statistical Association, has some pretty scientific methods to forecast who might win and by how much. We use his data for the winner and points’ margin.
We also include a prediction from the RugbyPassIndex, which gives a change of winning percentage.
As with last week, the easiest call is that defending champions, the Crusaders, are likely to win and that the Sunwolves will lose.
The other fixtures are a bit more difficult to predict, but we’ll stick our necks out and say the winning margin between the Stormers and the Lions will probably be a bit wider than suggested here.
About the RugbyPassIndex:
RugbyPass has created a next-generation rugby rating system, based on machine learning and shaped by game-winning moments. The system (RPI) is a world first for its complexity and comprehensive embrace of northern and southern hemisphere players and teams.
By using in-depth data analysis, RPI determines exactly what it takes to win, in real time. Check out the RPI here.
