'That was the one that got away'
REACTION: Lions head coach Swys de Bruin says his team will fight to stay on top of the South African Conference after they went down 24-31 to the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.
The loss left the Lions just three points above the Jaguares in the SA Conference. The Lions have one more game left before the play-offs, while the Jaguares have two games still to play.
“It was an away game, we go home with a bonus point and we are still top of the log, so we got to fight for that. We got one game left,” De Bruin told reporters after the game.
The Lions were leading 24-21 with around 12 minutes left to play before the Sharks took the lead with Lwazi Mvovo’s intercept try.
“That was the one that got away, but they read that intercept very well.
“Our guys that came back [from injury], haven’t played at this level for a while and it was a game of margins and it went their [Sharks] way. There is not much you can say,” De Bruin added.
The Lions have a bye in Round 18 before they finish the regular season against the Bulls at Ellis Park.
The Jaguares finish their campaign with matches against the Bulls and Sharks in South Africa.
