Toulon accept Sharks challenge

Toulon have accepted the challenge of Sharks CEO John Smit and will meet the Durban side in a challenge match on February 5 next year.

The defending European Cup and Top 14 champions have recently been linked with Super Rugby champions the Waratahs, but it seems that they will be locking horns with the Sharks instead.

Smit laid down the challenge over twitter on Tuesday, which sparked a reaction from Toulon boss Mourad Boudjellal.

"I saw what they said about RCT and I find it a little inappropriate," said Boudjellal

"I've seen Jaws 1, 2 and 3 and sharks don't scare me. If they want play against champions, it's wherever and whenever they want.

"If they think it's easy to win the double, then why don't they send their team and we'll see. Bernard (Laporte) told me it's not problem if they want to come and deal the final blow, we're ready to welcome them."

Toulon confirmed that they have agreed to host the match at their home ground via their official twitter feed on Sunday.

The match will take place on the first weekend of the Six Nations, which means that Toulon will be missing some top European players, whilst the Sharks will be in the final stages of preparation for the Super Rugby season which kicks off the following week.
