Tragedy at Kings Park

A Sharks supporter died at Kings Park prior to the start of the Sharks’ Super Rugby opener against the Bulls on Saturday.

Claire Buisman died of a heart attack as she walked up the south-west ramp to her seats at about 6.15pm.

According to the Daily News, the ramp lift was out of order and a security guard turned spectators away.

The Durban franchise’s management extended their condolences to the 52-year-old woman’s family on their Facebook page.

“The Sharks extend our sincere condolences to the family of a faithful supporter who died after suffering a heart attack at today's match,” read the statement.

Novashni Chetty, PR manager for the Sharks, confirmed to the Daily News that a supporter had collapsed on ramp two, level four, moments before kick off.

“She was attended to immediately by paramedics and doctors on duty. They tried to resuscitate her for over an hour,” Chetty said.

Chetty added a moment of silence in memory of Buisman will be held before this Saturday’s game between the Sharks and the Hurricanes at the same venue.
