Trans-Jukskei derby in Polokwane
This clash will take place on February 13 in what will be the fifth consecutive appearance of South Africa's most successful Super Rugby team in Limpopo's capital.
The Bulls will take to the impressive 45 000-seater World Cup 2010 stadium as part of a partnership between the BlueBulls Company and the City of Polokwane aiming to once again generate funds for tertiary students in Polokwane.
Polokwane and Limpopo fans are once again in for a treat as the Bulls, under a new coaching regime and bustling with some of the country's best young talent, will take on the Lions who dominated the provincial competition by winning the Currie Cup in great style.
It is a repeat of a warm-up that was played between these two teams back in 2010 in the same venue.
Barend van Graan, CEO of the BBC, said that the Polokwane fixture has fast become one of the highlights of their pre-season preparations.
"The professionalism shown by the organising committee is always of the highest standard and reception we receive from the fans is also something that our players and management really look forward to," Van Graan said.
"So it is always a real pleasure for our team to play in Polokwane."
According to Van Graan, the Bulls are keen to become the people's team and this is a great opportunity to connect with the fans.
"In this regard, it's also a great spectacle for all the rugby fans in Polokwane and the rest of Limpopo, as most of them are not able to travel to Pretoria for Super Rugby games.
"Most importantly, we are honoured that by participating in this match as we can assist in enabling young learners to further their education.
"We saw the need for funding of students highlighted this year and we are proud to say that we were contributing to education for the last couple of years."
Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli was just as enthusiastic about the encounter between the trans-Jukskei rivals.
"It is good to meet up with our neighbours from across the Jukskei river in this exciting warm-up to the new season and we are looking forward to taking our brand to the community, where there will surely be Lions supporters in attendance," Straeuli said.
"It is an ideal opportunity for both the Lions and Bulls to take the game to the supporters and I know that our coach Johan Ackermann will be keen to see his charges in action," Straeuli added.
Tickets cost R100 (Grand Stand); R80 (East Stand); R60 for North & South stand; R30 for scholars (If schools do Block booking, the school can retain R10 of the R30).
