VIDEO: Pollard and Jantjies battle in doubt
INJURY UPDATE: The Bulls only have one injury concern after their 43-34 win over the Jaguares in Pretoria last weekend.
The Bulls face the Lions at Ellis Park in what will be their final outing of the 2018 Super Rugby season.
The Pretoria outfit, who are out of contention for a play-offs place, could decide the South African conference winners because if they win at the Lions, the Jaguares can finish first by defeating the Sharks.
Bulls team doctor Herman Rossouw revealed that flyhalf Handre Pollard “picked up an issue with his back” and was not involved in training on Monday. He will be closely monitored throughout the week.
If both Pollard and Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies are selected it will set up another intriguing battle between the two Bok flyhalves.
Jantjies sustained a rib injury against the Sharks in Round 17, but he is expected to be fit for Saturday’s encounter.
The Bulls will also make a call on lock Jason Jenkin’s availability later in the week after he missed the clash with the Jaguares. The 22-year-old suffered a massive contusion on his calf in training last week.
Meanwhile, the good news for the Bulls is that both Travis Ismaiel and Burger Odendaal have returned to training and an assessment on their fitness will be made later during the week ahead of the clash against the Lions.
Prop Trevor Nyakane also started with selective training sessions, but he won’t be considered this week as he is not fit yet.
