Waratahs eyeing Final prize

The Waratahs have made a strong statement by securing the top of the table but that is not enough for coach Michael Cheika.

After defeating the Highlanders 44-16 on the weekend Cheika was elated particularly with the electric second half that saw his side pile on 33 points.

The Waratahs have now secured a record six successive Super Rugby wins for the first time in their history and are truly looking like a championship side.

“It’s a good feeling to achieve a goal that you set yourself at the start of the year [to finish top of the table] and obviously it’s the first of our two objectives for the season," the coach said.

"But more important was that I liked the way we played in the second half.

“We knuckled down to try and be physical with the ball, we were good defensively and the tries came after that.

"It was good to see such a good crowd enjoy the match and that’s really important for us.”

Despite securing the Australian conference and a home semi-final, Cheika would not buy into the hype surrounding his highly-fancied side.

“Finishing first is obviously important… But most of those box seats have an eject button.

"If you’re not ready for what’s to come in the finals you'll get ejected straight out,” he warned.

The Waratahs have been impressive throughout the competition thus far, especially at home where they are undefeated.

They finish of the league stages of the competition with a massive derby against their biggest rivals, the struggling Reds.

Cheika's selection for that match will be interesting to watch as the Waratahs cannot lose anything but pride with a defeat in Brisbane
