After sharing a Super Rugby debut back in 2018, the 27-year-old Liam Wright, and 26-year-old Tate McDermott – who now boast a combined 175 Reds caps ahead of a fourth consecutive year will be sharing the captaincy.

In a statement released on Thursday, Les Kiss said “neither had any hesitation about stepping up again.”

“There is a lot of respect, from coaches and fellow players, for Liam [Wright] and Tate [McDermott ] and the job they do as captains,” said Kiss.

“These are two guys who underpin the values of the club and the Reds are in a good place for them to be leading us into a big year.”

Wright said the privilege of leading his state “never dipped” as the countdown to Queensland’s 2025 season begins.

“I appreciate the support of the staff and players and want to do my best to serve the club,” Wright said in a statement.

“I feel like Tate and I are getting more and more cohesive each year with the way we work together.

“We bounce ideas off each other really well.”

“It’s exciting times again to lead the Reds with Liam [and] a great feeling to know the trust is there from Les, after our first season working with him and his coaching team in 2024, because he is doing a brilliant job leading the club,” added McDermott.
