According to the New Zealand Herald, the former All Black assistant coach is set to join the Western Force in a short-term Director of Rugby role.

It will be MacDonald’s first rugby role since leaving the All Blacks’ coaching set-up in August last year.

MacDonald left Scott Robertson’s team on the eve of their Rugby Championship Tests in South Africa due to a clash of coaching styles.

Robertson and MacDonald mutually agreed to part ways after discussions about their working approach, New Zealand Rugby said at the time.

MacDonald lasted just five games under Robertson.
