Stassen back in France where he was suspended for four years
NEWS: Hendre Stassen is apparently on his way back to France where he was suspended for doping for four years.
France Bleu Limousin reported that Stassen has signed with Brive as a replacement for Ross Moriarty, who was seriously injured against Dax on October 25.
The South African was a prospect at junior level having starred for the Junior Springboks and was subsequently signed by the Bulls in 2018.
However, after only one year in Pretoria, he joined Stade Francais, but his stint with the French giants was short-lived. After appearing in 18 games for the club, he tested positive for a banned substance.
He exited his four-year suspension in 2023 and joined the University of Pretoria team Tuks but was quickly snatched up by the Stormers for the 23/24 season.
He made his first appearance for the Cape Town team in November 2023, coming off the bench in the United Rugby Championship against Cardiff. He only starred in four matches for the Stormers this season.
Stassen fell in at training with Brive on Monday and will most likely be in contention to face Grenoble this Friday.
