Top 14 club makes big coaching decision after eight straight defeats

NEWS: French side Perpignan sacked boss Franck Azema on Monday after an eighth straight defeat this season in France’s Top 14.

The Catalan club sit rock bottom of the French top flight with zero points, having lost all their games so far.

“We confirm the withdrawal of Franck Azema. The next game will be overseen by the back-up staff, led by Mathieu Cidre,” Perpignan announced in a statement.

The troubled club now take on third-placed Pau away this weekend.

On Saturday, Perpignan, champions in 2009, lost the ‘game of fear’ 22-29 away against Montauban, who had themselves been winless in their promotion season before that match.

Perpignan finished second-bottom last season but had won nine of their 26 games, and recruited heavily in the close season.
