Toulon humiliated in Top 14
MATCH REPORT: France wing Louis Bielle-Biarrey scored an early try to set the tone for Bordeaux-Begles in a 46-7 rout of Toulon in the Top 14 on Sunday.
Bielle-Biarrey latched onto Matthieu Jalibert’s bouncing kick in the third minute as hosts Bordeaux quickly seized control after a strong start to their Champions Cup defence this month.
Fullback Romain Buros and centre Nicolas Depoortere also crossed in a dominant first-half display as Bordeaux led 27-0 at the break, with Maxime Lucu converting the tries and adding two penalties.
Toulon eventually got on the board through Junior Alainuuese with Bordeaux down to 14 after replacement lock Boris Palu’s yellow card.
Bordeaux picked up a bonus point when Jalibert ploughed over and Ugo Boniface extended the lead before Salesi Rayasi inflicted one final blow on Toulon at the death.
Lucu finished with 16 points, his only miss from the tee being the game’s final kick.
The win for Bordeaux, which comes after victories over the Bulls and Scarlets in the Champions Cup, sends them up to third in the Top 14, eight points behind leaders Pau and Toulouse.
Toulon drop one place to fourth and have now lost five of six away games this season.
