Another 'really disappointing' result for Plumtree
REACTION: Sharks head coach John Plumtree expressed his disappointment in his side’s 17-all draw with the Dragons in the United Rugby Championship Round Two clash in Newport.
The Sharks headed into the fixture as favourites and were expected to claim maximum points against the tournament strugglers.
The Durban-based team were eager to bounce back following their defeat to Glasgow Warriors in Round One.
However, they failed to take advantage of their dominance up front against a team that had lost their previous 18 matches.
“I’m a little disappointed with the result because I thought we had scrum dominance and were able to relieve pressure with our scrum and create pressure,” Plumtree stated after the match.
“So not getting the result is really disappointing.”
The Kiwi praised his team’s defence in the closing minutes, where the home side threatened to snatch victory at the death before a knock-on ended play near the visitors’ tryline.
“I am proud of the boys and the way they held on at the end under pressure defensively.
“But again, disappointed because we conceded one or two pretty soft tries.”
He added: “We sort of feel a little bit let down that we didn’t finish the job, but anyway, we move on to the next one.”
The coach hopes that this week they will work on the flaws as they face a big challenge in the shape of Leinster in Dublin.
