Bulls sweat over playmakers as Bok star sends message from hospital
SPOTLIGHT: Springbok fullback Willie le Roux has caused some panic amongst Bulls supporters on Monday.
The 35-year-old posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed on social media with the words “recovery starts now”.
The Bulls later confirmed that he had undergone surgery.
The good news is that it doesn’t seem serious, but there will still be questions about his recovery time during this crucial period of the season.
The story continues below…
“We can confirm that Willie le Roux – this [Monday] afternoon – underwent a minor repair in the shoulder/neck area,” said a statement from the Bulls.
“He is expected to return to full fitness within a short period of time as the procedure was a success.”
It’s a bit of a concern for the Bulls as they have struggled with playmakers over the last few months.
Johan Goosen has been out of action with a knee injury and Le Roux has filled the void in the No.10 role in some recent matches.
In the 21-20 win over Leinster on Saturday, Keagan Johannes was given the flyhalf responsibilities before he was replaced in the 70th minute.
Le Roux, who started at fullback, closed out the game at No.10.
After Saturday’s match, Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White revealed that Bok No.8 Cameron Hanekom suffered a “spasm in his lower back”.
Meanwhile, Bok hooker Johan Grobbelaar is battling a “sore shoulder”.
