Bok prop Frans Malherbe suffers a 'setback'
NEWS: Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson has provided an update on Springbok prop Frans Malherbe.
There have been question marks around the 34-year-old’s playing future due to his long-term absence from the game.
A back injury has kept him out of action since April last year.
Dobson has revealed that he has made progress. However, he has suffered a setback.
“Frans reminded me very directly this week that he is doing rehab every day,” Dobson told reporters ahead of his side’s URC clash against the Sharks this weekend.
“He has made a lot of progress with the neck and the back. He just had a setback with his hip, and they’re not sure if it is related.
“He is not changing direction yet, but he is running full speed, and that is normally a month or two, but he is rehabbing properly.”
On a return to action, Dobson added: “That is all about his nerve and the pain.
“He is not scrumming yet. He is not certain.
“But from running and putting in and just the general shape, it looks good.”
