Bok superstar returns to bring 'chaos' to Croke Park showdown
SPOTLIGHT: Some of the game’s biggest names will take to the field at Croke Park this weekend, and a Springbok could be one of the headliners.
Leinster will welcome Irish rivals Munster to the venue on Saturday, and Leo Cullen is set to unleash more of his stars.
RG Snyman is back in the mix in Dublin after returning to training this week.
He missed the opening rounds of the United Rugby Championship as he was helping the Springboks secure back-to-back Rugby Championship titles.
Snyman has established himself as one of the best in the business when it comes to the offloading game, and Leinster backs coach Tyler Bleyendaal says the 30-year-old will boost the team’s attacking threats.
“Sometimes it’s not easy to plan around because he’s also quite instinctive,” Bleyendaal told Irish media ahead of Saturday’s fixture.
“Some of the unstructured play that he can create is equally chaotic but beneficial for us.
“I think it’s about guys, that probably took a few games last year [to understand], where he’d carry into a brick wall, but suddenly the ball’s flying out and we’re playing off it again.
“So, it’s about staying alive around him.
“He also just brings a really good energy. He’s such a lovely bloke. In the week, he’s quite a relaxed kind of character, so he adds that kind of difference to our group, and then he plays with still a mean kind of physicality with just a great skill set.
“Like I said, it’s something you can’t always plan for, but if you’re alive to it, it can create some nice unstructured play.”
Meanwhile, centre Robbie Henshaw was withdrawn early in the second half against the Sharks as a precautionary measure last weekend and will be further assessed this week before a final decision will be made on his availability.
Jordan Larmour will enter the final stages of his rehabilitation and a final decision will be made on his availability later in the week.
There is no further update on Cormac Foley, Caelan Doris, Joe McCarthy and Hugo Keenan.
