Bulls 'on edge' over possible Bok recruit
UPDATE: The Bulls’ discussions to lure a Springbok to Loftus Versfeld are in a ‘sensitive’ stage.
Weekend media reports revealed the French-based Springbok utility back Curwin Bosch is on the Pretoria franchise’s ‘wish list’.
@rugby365com can confirm that ‘discussions’ are taking place to lure Bosch, 28, back from Pro D2 Brive.
The twice-capped Bok joined Brive in 2024, after playing for the Sharks in 160-odd games in the Currie Cup, Super Rugby and URC.
The Bulls’ discussions with Bosch and his agent are at a ‘sensitive stage’ and ongoing.
@JanDKrugby confirmed that Bulls coach Johan Ackermann initiated the discussions through CEO Edgar Rathbone.
The need for a utility that can play at flyhalf came about with the retirement of fellow Bok playmaker Johan Goosen.
The Bulls first targeted the seasoned No.10 Tinus de Beer.
This deal, despite De Beer’s willingness to pay his own transfer fee to join the Bulls from the Dragons, was scuppered when the Welsh outfit refused to release him early from his contract.
The Bulls’ options at flyhalf have been further complicated by the departure of former Junior Bok No.10 Liam Koen to Griquas, while Kade Wolhuter – on loan from the Lions till June – will not be available again this season after suffering a serious knee injury.
Handré Pollard and Keagan Johannes are the main options at flyhalf, as the Bulls head into the business end of the URC and Champions Cup seasons.
However, with the Bosch negotiations being at a delicate stage, the deal won’t be rushed.
