Bulls star escapes suspension after hearing
DISCIPLINARY NEWS: Bulls loose forward Marcell Coetzee has been cleared to play this weekend after a disciplinary panel dismissed a citing complaint arising from his team’s United Rugby Championship clash against Ulster.
Coetzee was cited for an alleged dangerous clean-out during the 43rd minute of the Round Four match on Saturday, October 24, under World Rugby Laws 9.20(a) and 9.20(b), relating to dangerous play in a ruck or maul.
The disciplinary panel, chaired by Ireland’s Ben Rutherford alongside Wales’ Declan Goodwin and Chris Morgan, agreed that foul play had occurred but found that the clean-out was primarily shoulder-to-body contact.
The panel determined that the head contact was incidental and of low force, a finding supported by evidence from Coetzee, his opponent and the medical team.
In accordance with World Rugby’s Head Contact Process, the panel concluded that the degree of danger was low and that a yellow card, as issued by the match officials during the game, was the appropriate sanction.
The citing complaint was therefore not upheld, clearing Coetzee to feature for the Bulls this weekend.
