Franco Smith makes career decision
NEWS: Franco Smith has signed a new contract to remain as Glasgow Warriors head coach.
Glasgow announced the signing on social media on Wednesday.
The South African took over in 2022 after Danny Wilson was sacked in the wake of a 76-14 demolition by Leinster in a United Rugby Championship (URC) quarterfinal.
Smith led the Warriors to the Challenge Cup final in his first season, before taking Glasgow to his native South Africa and toppling the Bulls to win the URC title in 2024.
After his side fell at the URC semifinals last season, Smith appeared to cast doubt over his future by delivering a tearful address to the media following the defeat to Leinster.

He was reportedly among the contenders to replace Michael Cheika at Leicester Tigers, and was touted as a potential Wales coach.
Smith was also mentioned as a possible replacement for Gregor Townsend as Scotland head coach.
Smith says, “There is still so much more we can achieve,” having put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him remain at Scotstoun until at least the summer of 2028.
Smith’s future has been subject to debate, with the ex-Italy boss linked with a move away from Scotstoun for much of last season.
His new contract, alongside that for Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend, is due to be confirmed on Wednesday.
