'He can pass on the knowledge': Edinburgh get their Springbok
SPOTLIGHT: Edinburgh could have some Springbok muscle in their pack for their upcoming United Rugby Championship clash against Munster in Cork on Friday.
Prop Boan Venter is back in training with his club after being a part of Rassie Erasmus’ squad that clinched this year’s Rugby Championship title.
The 28-year-old joined Edinburgh from the Cheetahs in 2021, and he previously spoke about his interest in qualifying for Scotland on the international stage.
However, Erasmus came knocking earlier this year when there was a bit of an injury crisis, and he eventually made his debut against Georgia in July.
His last appearance was a starting role in South Africa’s 67-30 victory over Argentina in Durban.
“He’s really excited where he is, because earlier in the year he would never have thought that this opportunity would have arrived,” said Everitt.
“It’s surreal the way he went in and ended up winning the Rugby Championship.
“South Africa under Rassie has only won it three times, so it’s not often that you get that opportunity.
“It’s great for him and I’m sure he’ll come back a better player.”
Everitt added: “He can pass on the knowledge he’s gained to the rest of the squad, and particularly the youngsters around him.
“We’ll see how he gets through training, but he will be up for selection if he comes through the week.”
