Johan Ackermann's 'concerning' update on Canan Moodie
NEWS: The Bulls suffered another blow to their backline stocks as they maintain their play-off push in this season’s United Rugby Championship.
On Saturday, head coach Johan Ackermann revealed there is some concern over Springbok Canan Moodie, who only played 40 minutes in Friday’s 47-7 win over the Dragons in Newport.
The 23-year-old was replaced at half-time after he felt some discomfort in his hamstring.
The story continues below…
The Bulls will now face a tense wait to see how serious the injury is before their next tour match against the Scarlets.
“We have been tested with the outside backs,” said Ackermann
“It started with Stravino [Jacobs] and Sebastian [de Klerk], who are both out, and then we lost Cheswill Jooste and Kurt-Lee Arendse for this week.
“And now Canan felt his hamstring just before half-time, so we were not confident that he could go out and play because you can aggravate it and make it even worse. We didn’t want to risk that.
“He is the only real concern at this stage.
“With the rest, there are bumps and bruises and guys that are sore, but not stuff that we are overly concerned about. It’s more about Canan’s hamstring and if he is going to be available.”
The good news for Ackermann is that he could have two of his other speedsters back for the Scarlets clash.
“Cheswill and Kurt-lee have responded well to treatment, and hopefully they will be back next week.
“If Canan is not available, we will have some options there.”
