Glimmer of hope for Stormers young gun ahead of URC Final

SPOTLIGHT: Stormers young gun Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu could still play a part in his team’s United Rugby Championship Final against Munster on Saturday.

The 21-year-old suffered a fracture in his hand in Western Province’s 22-14 win over the Pumas in the Currie Cup last Friday with head coach John Dobson calling it a “blow” in terms of team selection ahead of the Munster clash.

However, it now seems that the Stormers are doing all they can to get the player patched up for the Final.

On Tuesday, Stormers and Western Province assistant coach Labeeb Levy confirmed that Feinberg-Mngomezulu suffered “some form of break” in his hand, but they have yet to rule him out.

“The decision hasn’t been made around Sacha. They [medical team] are trying to get him onto the park,” said Levy.

He added: “They are just waiting to see if it is possible to play with the injury.

“It is a Final, so they are giving him as much time as possible.”

“They are going to see if there is a splint or some form of gadget for his hand to make him available.”

Feinberg-Mngomezulu played off the bench in his team’s quarterfinal and semifinal wins over the Bulls and Connacht.

If he is available this weekend, he is set to get the same role against Munster.

After that Pumas match, Dobson mentioned that Jean-Luc du Plessis and Clayton Blommetjies are options for bench roles in the Final.

Du Plessis was also on the bench for the semifinal against Connacht.
