'It's a bad start': Dobson sheds light on Stormers' big injury blows

REACTION: Stormers captain Salmaan Moerat is set for another stint on the sidelines after he suffered a pectoral injury in his team’s United Rugby Championship opener against the Lions on Saturday.

Moerat, who was returning after a lengthy lay-off due to a knee injury, left the field in the 26th minute of his team’s thrilling 35-33 win at Ellis Park.

“He has torn a pec so those can be quite big,” said Stormers head coach John Dobson.

“It’s two big ones [injuries] already with him and Dan [du Plessis].”

“He [Moerat] is going for a scan tomorrow [Sunday].”

Dobson went on to shed some light on Du Plessis’ injury. The midfielder was already ruled out of the Lions clash earlier in the week.

“It is quite a serious quad injury, so it’s a bad start for us,” Dobson explained.

Meanwhile, the Stormers coach was disappointed with the way his team allowed the Lions back into the game after leading 32-7 earlier in the second half.

“We knew the Lions would get us into a shootout in the last 20 [minutes] and we sort of played into it with the quick throw-ins and funny plays around the front of the line-out.

“We just got sucked into what they were trying to do to us.

“I thought we were really poor in that last half hour. It was very disappointing, to be honest.

“The way we played in the first [half] was exactly what we wanted, but to get as loose as we did was not what we were after.”
