Powell took over the role as head coach of the Sharks after the departure of Sean Everitt in October.

The former BlitzBok mentor told reporters after the Sharks’ defeat to the Stormers at the weekend that the new coaching structure will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

“We obviously have some people in mind that will come in at the end of the season,” Powell told reporters.

“That [the process] is going pretty well and the people we are talking to will be able to take the Sharks to the next level.

“We will go with a combination of what we have and what we have tried to establish already as a foundation. We are in a good space in terms of that.

“Hopefully we will be able to announce the new coaching structures in the next few weeks or so.”

On Monday, various media reports reveal that former Sharks head coach John Plumtree is set to make a return to Durban.

According to IOL, former All Blacks assistant coach Plumtree would be appointed as the head coach and is set to take up the role in July.

The 57-year-old served as an assistant coach to Dick Muir when the Sharks progressed to the Super 14 final in 2007.

Plumtree took over as head coach in 2008, a role he held until 2012, before returning to New Zealand.
