Stormers coach: 'It was just a very bad day at the office'

REACTION: Stormers head coach John Dobson believes his team produced one of their “poorest” performances of the season so far at Scotstoun Stadium against Glasgow.

The Capetonians fell to a heart-breaking 17-24 defeat after a late try by Glasgow Warriors wing Sebastian Cancelliere.

In total, the Scottish side scored four tries in the match and Dobson believes his team got things wrong at the breakdowns and on defence.

“I think Glasgow definitely deserved the win,” said Dobson.

“I thought it was one of our poorest performances of the season.

“We failed to exit and we didn’t stick to how we wanted to play on attack.

“We were poor in areas where we didn’t want to be.

“We were overcommitted to defensive breakdowns. I thought we gave them a few yards on defence when they carried off No.10 and off No.9.

“It was just a very bad day at the office against a team that is on a roll.”

On dealing with his team’s defence, Dobson gave the Scottish side some credit.

“We have to give Glasgow credit with the way they went deep to get around our line-speed,” the coach explained.

“We weren’t slowing their ball down and you also don’t want to over-commit another player there. We had to make double tackles to slow it down and I think we were really poor with that and their ball was too fast.

“We have to give them credit, they knew we were coming with line-speed and they got around us.”

Meanwhile, the Stormers will be without wing Leolin Zas for their trip to England to face London Irish in a Round Three Champions Cup clash on Sunday

The 27-year-old left the field with an injury in that defeat to Glasgow on Sunday.

“It looked quite serious when he came off,” said Dobson.

“It looks like a muscle-related injury and not a ligament, but it could be anything.

“He looked really uncomfortable and there is no doubt his tour is over.”
