The installation of the new pitch at the Cape Town Stadium has been met with pure excitement from the Stormers and fans.

In an official social media post, the Stormers have given an update on the transformation of the Cape Town Stadium turf.

The process started on July 3.

The new turf which will consist of 50 percent grass and 50 percent synthetic replaces the one which was originally created for football during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The pitch had the tendency to tear up under the weight of the pack, particularly at scrummaging and took a huge bruising during the 2023 United Rugby Championship play-offs with the Stormers pack struggling against Munster in the Final.

Ahead of the Grand Final in May, then Stormers captain and Ulster-bound prop Steven Kitshoff said it’s not the easiest field to scrum on.

“It takes a lot of time and effort to start building a good momentum at the scrums,” Kitshoff said in May.

“There are going to be a lot of static scrums when it comes to the final, but we will work hard to make sure we get some go forward when it comes to scrum time.”

Fans were delighted with the new pitch.
