Nohamba is doing it the 'French way'

SPOTLIGHT: The Bulls are once again putting plans in place to counter the threat posed by Lions star Sanele Nohamba ahead of their United Rugby Championship Round 10 showdown in Johannesburg.

Nohamba was a constant threat on attack in the No.10 jersey in his team’s narrow 28-30 defeat to the Bulls in Pretoria last month.

He launched a great counterattacking try in that match and showed his pedigree with a neat drop-goal under pressure.

Nohamba is one of South Africa’s most exciting players at the moment and White knows has his team will need to make him work more around the park.

The story continues below…

“I think we have to make him tackle. I read an article saying that he didn’t make one tackle against us,” said Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White.

“It’s not his fault. We just never ran towards him.

“Sometimes you got to play a bit more and that is the challenge we have.

“He is playing well. Not many guys can play No.9 and No.10 at URC level.

“In France, it’s a normal thing. You had Frédéric Michalak playing No.9 and No.10 and you had Jean-Baptiste Élissalde that played No.9 and No.10.

“In South Africa, it’s not really something that is done.

“It’s almost a French way for me.”

White added: “He is playing well and we got to put him under pressure.

“He dropped a couple of up-and-unders on us early last time we played.

“Unluckily the ball never bounced into our hands. We have to make sure we put him under pressure.

“However, it is not about Nohamba, it is about making sure our whole game is on song.”
