'Questioning why me?': Sacha reveals emotional reaction to injury

INJURY UPDATE: South Africa and Stormers star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has broken his silence following the ankle injury that cut short his side’s United Rugby Championship quarterfinal victory over Cardiff, admitting he is frustrated but determined to return stronger than ever.

The 24-year-old playmaker took to social media on Sunday to share his disappointment after suffering what appears to be a serious ankle injury while scoring a try in the Stormers’ 44-21 win at DHL Stadium.

Having enjoyed 14 months without injury and established himself as the Springboks’ first-choice flyhalf, Feinberg-Mngomezulu described the setback as a harsh reminder of rugby’s unforgiving nature.

“Usually I post caption-less carousels. This time I’ll say it how it is,” he wrote.

“Frustrated, irritated and questioning why me? First time injured in 14 months. Sometimes the game reminds you that you’re not invincible!”

The injury occurred in the 52nd minute of the Stormers’ quarterfinal triumph, with Feinberg-Mngomezulu immediately requiring treatment before leaving the field.

Stormers director of rugby John Dobson offered a worrying assessment after the match.

“It looks pretty serious, to be honest,” Dobson said.

“He’s obviously going for a scan. The doctors have given me some feedback, but it looks like a proper ankle injury.”

The timing could hardly be worse for the gifted flyhalf, who has enjoyed a breakthrough season at both franchise and international level. After years of battling various injuries, Feinberg-Mngomezulu had finally put together a sustained run of fitness, producing performances that elevated him into conversations among the world’s premier playmakers.

Early indications suggest the injury could sideline him for several months, ruling him out of the remainder of the Stormers’ URC campaign and potentially placing his involvement in South Africa’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand in doubt.

Yet despite his obvious disappointment, Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s message quickly shifted from frustration to determination.

“Another injury, another chance to come back hungry, determined and focused,” he wrote.

“I’ve got a job to do, get back and get back better than I left.

“I’m not one to dwell, but I’ll have a little vent! Now… BACK TO WORK! Next job, crystal clear vision and mindset. See you soon!!”

For now, the Stormers and Springboks will anxiously await the results of scans.
