'Rip into them': Stormers get huge warning after Scarlets' travel nightmare

SPOTLIGHT: The Stormers will be up against a frustrated Scarlets side in Llanelli on Friday.

And the Welsh side will be looking to take that frustration out on the Capetonians.

Dwayne Peel’s side started their campaign with a 21-34 home defeat to Munster in Round One, and they could not right the wrongs in Round Two after their fixture was called off.

Due to major travel disruptions and flight cancellations caused by Storm Amy, their fixture against Connacht, which was due to take place on Saturday in Galway, will now be postponed to a later date.

Last Friday, their flight from Bristol was unable to land in Dublin before it was diverted to Manchester.

They were stuck on the runway for almost nine hours waiting for their next destination.

“It was a long day for everyone, and a long morning because we got back home around 6.30 to 7am on Saturday,” said Peel.

“It was disappointing from a rugby perspective not to get over and play the game, but it was not great preparation the day before to be stuck on a flight for that long.

“Fortunately for us, it was a Friday, so we had Saturday and Sunday to recover. The boys came in on Monday in good spirits, considering and have trained well for what is a big game.”

“We were revved up and excited to right some wrongs from Munster,” said Wales centre Johnny Williams, who was set to captain the side for the first time.

“We didn’t get that opportunity and it was far from ideal what happened, but it means that we are fresh from having no game. We are ready to rip into Stormers.”

Wales centre Johnny Williams, who was set to captain the team against Connacht, said they are itching to get at the Stormers.

“We were revved up and excited to right some wrongs from Munster,” said Williams.

“We didn’t get that opportunity and it was far from ideal what happened, but it means that we are fresh from having no game.

“We are ready to rip into Stormers.”

Meanwhile, Springbok hooker Marnus van der Merwe is back with the Scarlets squad ahead of Friday’s match.

Flyhalf Sam Costelow will also be available for selection after returning from a head injury.
