Sharks get double Bok boost for Lions showdown

TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT: Sharks interim head coach JP Pietersen has revealed his matchday squad for Saturday’s United Rugby Championship Round Nine derby against the Lions in Durban.

In a big boost for the hosts, Springboks Ox Nche and Aphelele Fassi are over their respective ailments, and they both get starts.

Corne Rahl and Siya Masuku also make welcome returns to the matchday 23. Both are named on the bench.

In all, Pietersen has made just the three changes to the starting XV, with Nche starting for Phatu Ganyane at loosehead, Manu Tshituka in place of Phepsi Buthelezi at No.8, joining Ganyane on the bench, and Fassi at No.15 for Hakeem Kunene, the final switch.

Buthelezi will play off the bench this week.

The Sharks recorded a 21-12 win over the Bulls in their last outing before Christmas, while the Lions will be looking to bounce back after a 27-34 defeat to the Stormers in Cape Town.

Sharks: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Edwill van der Merwe, 13 Ethan Hooker, 12 Andre Esterhuizen (captain), 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Jordan Hendrikse, 9 Grant Williams, 8 Manu Tshituka, 7 Vincent Tshituka, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Emile van Heerden, 4 Jason Jenkins, 3 Hanro Jacobs, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Ox Nche.
