'It doesn’t happen often': Sharks players get a 'second chance'

SPOTLIGHT: Wing Yaw Penxe says the Sharks are ready to “right the wrongs” after last weekend’s horror show against the Lions at Ellis Park in the United Rugby Championship.

The Sharks were outplayed on their way to a 14-38 defeat in Johannesburg, but they will get a second shot at Ivan van Rooyen’s side this weekend in Durban in a rescheduled Round One clash.

“As players we had a proper look at ourselves, individually and as a unit,” said Penxe.

“We kind of know where we went wrong and we’ve just been working on it in the last couple of days.

“We are essentially getting a second chance, which doesn’t happen often, so we can hopefully right our wrongs this weekend.”

Penxe said his team has identified the key areas where they fell short against the Lions.

“We weren’t as physical as we would like to be and the second big point was our kicking game,” the wing explained.

“We had a couple of inaccurate kicks, which hurt us and obviously our skill set as well, where we gave away a couple of turnovers and they put us straight back into our half.

“So, it was just about sharpening our skill sets and the bit on the physicality side, which is more mental.”

The Sharks will also have the opportunity to win the South African Shield this weekend. They are four points behind the Stormers.

“We haven’t won the Shield yet, so there is a bit of motivation coming from that,” said Penxe.

“Every match is important and hopefully we can get the win and lift the Shield for the first time.”
