Sharks poach another Lions star

By Leezil Hendricks
Wednesday 4 Feb 2026

TRANSFER NEWS: The Sharks continue to strengthen their squad after securing the signature of former Junior Springbok Gianni Lombard from the Lions.

The Durban-based franchise confirmed via their social media channels that Lombard will make the move from Johannesburg ahead of next season.

The versatile flyhalf, who is also comfortable at fullback, has signed a three-year deal with the Sharks.

Born in Worcester, Lombard began his youth career with Boland and Western Province before relocating to Gauteng in 2017.

The 28-year-old adds further depth to a Sharks squad that already includes former Lions players Jordan Hendrikse, Edwill van der Merwe and the Tshituka brothers, Vincent and Emmanuel.

Earlier this week, the Sharks also signed Cheetahs prop Cameron Dawson.
