Sharks to snap up Everitt's assistant?
TRANSFER TALK: Edinburgh’s loss could be the Sharks’ gain following the departure of one of Sean Everitt’s assistant coaches.
Former Sharks player and current Edinburgh attack coach Scott Mathie will depart the Scottish capital side at the end of the 2025/26 United Rugby Championship season, the club confirmed on Monday.
He’s been rumoured to join JP Pietersen at the Sharks in the same capacity, according to Netwerk24.
Mathie previously coached Griquas in the Currie Cup and the New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby.
The announcement follows the initial phase of changes being made by Everitt to the club’s coaching, medical and strength and conditioning departments as part of a wider reassessment of its coaching and performance functions.
The club remain in discussions with other members of its coaching and performance staff, with a full update to be provided once this process has been completed.
Edinburgh has now initiated a global search for new assistant coach candidates across a range of specialisms to bring fresh knowledge and experience to the capital side in 2026/27.
Everitt said: “I’d like to thank Scott for all his contributions over the past two seasons.
“He is a talented coach who has brought a great deal of energy and insight to our attacking play since arriving in Edinburgh.
“Scott still has plenty to contribute over the remainder of the current campaign, and we wish him the very best in his next challenge.”
