Springbok and Sharks star suffers injury setback
NEWS: Springbok and Sharks fullback Aphele Fassi has been ruled out of action for several weeks due to a shoulder injury.
Jaco Williams will run out at fullback against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, and the question of Fassi’s absence was posed to coach JP Pietersen on Thursday.
He revealed that Fassi hurt his shoulder, but he wasn’t too sure if the fullback would need surgery or just rehabilitation.
“He hurt his shoulder, and I think he saw the surgeon this week,” Pietersen told Rugby365.
“We are just waiting to hear if he is going for surgery or rehab. We are just waiting on that call. I don’t know much about shoulders, but if we are talking rehab, not sure how long, maybe six weeks.
“Or operation, I don’t know. I think I will know more about him later today.”
Other Springboks who will sit out this weekend are Grant Williams, Ethan Hooker, and Siya Kolisi due to their rest protocols.
The No.15 suffered an ankle injury in the Springboks’ 43-10 victory over the All Blacks in Wellington in September last year and underwent surgery.
