Springbok signs on the dotted line for Lions
NEWS: Lions fans will have something to cheer about after their team’s poor performance in an 18-26 Challenge Cup defeat to Benetton over the weekend.
On Monday, the Johannesburg franchise revealed that one of their Springboks has extended his stay at Ellis Park.
That player is Ruan Venter, and his contract will now run until June 2028.
The 23-year-old made his first and only appearance for the Boks after coming off the bench against Portugal in a 64-21 win in Bloemfontein last year.
Meanwhile, the flank was one of his team’s try-scorers in the defeat against Benetton.
The Lions will now travel to the United Kingdom for their Round Two Challenge Cup clash against Newcastle.
Venter is one of several frontline players who will remain in South Africa ahead of the URC derby against the Stormers on December 20 in Cape Town.
