Steyn scores and Glasgow go top

MATCH REPORT: Glasgow Warriors climbed to the top of the United Rugby Championship standings with a 40-17 win over Cardiff at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday.

Franco Smith’s side scored six tries on their way to victory, with Johnny Matthews getting a brace.

Glasgow now have 60 log points, one more than the Stormers, who played out a 38-38 draw with Ulster in Belfast.

The Warriors led 21-7 at the break thanks to tries from Jack Dempsey, Kyle Steyn and Matthews.

It was more of the same in the second half as Matthews secured his brace in the 54th minute before Patrick Schickerling and Kyle Rowe made it comfortable.

Cardiff’s tries were scored by Josh Adams, Danny Southworth and Jacob Beetham.
