Stormers boss provides bleak update on key player
SPOTLIGHT: The Stormers will have to navigate a tough series of matches over the next month or two without one of their backline enforcers.
On Friday, flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu (groin) and centre Ruhan Nel (calf) were both missing from the Stormers’ teamsheet for the match against the Lions due to injuries.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu should recover in time for the big North-South derby against the Bulls on January 3. However, Nel’s injury is more concerning.
The story continues below…
“It all just happened in the space of a few minutes in training. Ruhan limped off, and then Sacha limped off,” said Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson.
“Damian [Willemse] was close [to playing], but we gave him another week to make him 100 percent safe for the Bulls.”
Dobson added: “Sacha will be fine for the Bulls game, but Ruhan’s injury is more substantial.
“He has got a Grade Two calf. He is an important player – he leads the defence.
“He is involved in a lot of our work rate stuff that puts the opposition under pressure.
“Ruhan will be out for six to eight weeks. There are quite a few centres that are not around.”
Meanwhile, Jurie Matthee will wear the No.10 jersey in Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s absence on Saturday.
“Jurie is an excellent player, and he brings a certain style to our game, ” said Stormers captain Salmaan Moerat.
“I am super excited to see what he can do tomorrow [Saturday].”
