Stormers 'Project 2029' - Who could follow Siya back to the Cape?

SPOTLIGHT: The unbeaten Stormers made a shocking revelation that Springbok captain Siya Kolisi will return to the blue and white hoops, but which other former stars could follow suit?

Kolisi will leave the Sharks at the conclusion of the 2025/26 United Rugby Championship to rejoin the Cape side, whom he represented on 118 occasions.

Director of Rugby John Dobson regularly refers to the Stormers’ “Project 2029” in his vision to win both the URC and Champions Cup.

The Capetonians made their intentions clear with Kolisi’s return, Wilco Louw rejoining next season from the Bulls and re-signing Bok flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu until 2029.

It wouldn’t be a shock if more players make their return to Cape Town.

It’s rumoured that Ruben van Heerden is on the radar of Montpellier and could join the French outfit at the conclusion of the current URC season.

Bok lock Eben Etzebeth could be the perfect replacement for Van Heerden, although the most capped Bok is still under contract with the Sharks until 2027.

The same counts for centre Damian de Allende, who is currently plying his trade in Japan with the Wild Knights until 2027.

De Allende made it clear that he would love nothing more than to finish his storied career where it all started back in 2012 with the Stormers during a Bok media conference in June 2025.

“I’ve got two more seasons left in Japan. My contract finishes in 2027,” De Allende told @Rugby365.

“And I enjoy it there. My body still feels very good at the moment.

“We’ll see how my body is next year and the year after, how I am mentally, and if I can keep up with rugby moving forward,” De Allende answered.

“Ideally, I would love to finish in South Africa.

“I would like to finish in Cape Town, so if the chance does come for me to finish in Cape Town and I can play a season or two in South Africa for the Stormers and Western Province, I would love to.

“We’ll see when the time comes, when it gets closer to the end of my contract.

“I don’t see myself playing anywhere else besides coming to Cape Town,” he added.

Which players do you think might rejoin the Stormers in the near future?
