Stormers secure signature of viral winger
TRANSFER NEWS: The Stormers have officially secured the signing of winger Lleyton Davids.
The 25-year-old speedster has earned a professional contract after making a name for himself in Boland club rugby with Robertson Town RFC.
Davids caught the attention of the Stormers with his blistering pace and try-scoring ability – 31 tries in 19 matches this season.
The winger is a three-time South African triple-jump champion, with his speed and explosiveness making him an intriguing addition to the Stormers squad.
Davids has been training with the Cape Town franchise during their pre-season preparations for the United Rugby Championship and featured in their warm-up clash against the Bulls.
He crossed the try line during the 26-38 defeat at Faure Street Stadium in Paarl.
Davids’ agent, F7 Sports Management, confirmed the signing on social media.
“SIGNED! We are delighted to announce that Lleyton Davids has signed a professional contract with the DHL Stormers,” F7 posted.
“The 25-year-old winger from Bonnievale was in prolific form for Robertson Town in Boland club rugby this season, scoring 31 tries in 19 games. He then impressed during a 40-minute cameo for the Stormers in a friendly against the Vodacom Bulls a few weeks ago.
“A three-time South African triple-jump champion with sprinting prowess to match, the speedster now has the opportunity to make his mark on the professional rugby stage.
“We are incredibly proud!”
