Stormers send SOS to Pumas playmaker

TRANSFER NEWS: The Stormers confirmed the signing of a Pumas playmaker for their upcoming United Rugby Championship season.

Flyhalf Clinton Swart will join the Stormers on a short-term loan deal from the Mbombela outfit.

The loss of Springbok Manie Libbok has left the Cape side short on flyhalves with Sasha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse on Springbok duty ahead of their season-opening clash against defending champions Leinster.

Jean Luc du Plessis suffered an injury against the Boland Cavaliers last weekend, leaving Jurie Mathee as the only experienced No.10 in the squad.

“It’s his ankle. I’m not quite sure of the extent of his injury,” Currie Cup head coach Labeeb Levy said after the clash against Boland.

He added: “I don’t think he can play against the Sharks next week [in a pre-season friendly].

“He might even miss the [Leinster] clash because an ankle generally takes three weeks [to heal].”

Rookie Kyle Smith could also be called upon after a decent Currie Cup campaign, despite not being included in the Stormers’ URC squad.
