Stormers star extends his contract

NEWS: The Stormers have locked in the services of Evan Roos until at least 2027.

The 24-year-old Roos is the latest player to be confirmed as remaining in Cape Town following the announcement of similar extensions for Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Dan du Plessis and Ruben van Heerden.

In 2022 Roos burst onto the scene during the United Rugby Championship and kicked the door down so the Springbok selectors could not ignore him.

And then the accolades came – URC Players’ Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Season and Next-Gen Player of the Season while he was also included in the URC Dream Team.

This earned him a Springbok call-up and he made his Springbok debut on July 9, 2022 against Wales.

However, he was one of the unfortunate ones to miss out on South Africa’s final World Cup squad of 33.

The flank is a product of Paarl Boys High, has over 50 Stormers caps to his name after he joined the squad in early 2021.

Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson said adding a player of Roos’ quality to the growing list of long-term extensions is another vote of confidence in the direction the squad is heading in.

“Evan has been simply sensational since joining us three years ago and at just 24, there is still plenty more to come from him in a DHL Stormers jersey.

“He brings physicality, pace and most of all a fantastic attitude to everything he does and we look forward to watching him continue to grow in our system.

“These extensions and a few more that will be announced soon show that the key players in this squad are committed to our vision and have bought-in to build something special over the next few years, which is very exciting,” he said.

Roos said that the decision to sign a three-year extension was an easy one.

“My rugby career has been transformed here at the DHL Stormers and playing for this team means a lot to me.

“We have still got so much that we can achieve together and I want to play a central role in the future success that is to come,” he said.
