The Bok that convinced Augustus to join Ulster
SPOTLIGHT: English Premiership Champion Juarno Augustus revealed the player who convinced him to move from Northampton Saints to Ulster in pursuit of chasing his Springbok dream.
Augustus joined Northampton Saints in 2021 and had a successful stint with the Premiership outfit.
He represented the Saints on 81 occasions and scored 22 tries in the process.

He was part of the team that won the 2023/24 Premiership Final.
Augustus missed out on his former side’s Champions Cup Final against Bordeaux through injury, which the Saints lost 20-28.
The 27-year-old was called up to Rassie Erasmus’ second alignment camp in May 2025 but is yet to earn a Test cap for his country.
He was also named the Player of the Tournament at the 2017 World Rugby Under-20 tournament, scoring a try in every match he played in.
Augustus commented on his move to Ulster and revealed that Bulls loose forward Marcell Coetzee convinced him to make the move from Northampton to Belfast.
“I spoke to him [Coetzee] last year before I came over, and he couldn’t stop talking about the good things the province has done and what it can achieve in the next couple of years.
“I’m happy to give the little bits that I have to try to achieve that,” he said.
“I just want to get the best out of myself for the three years I will be here.
“If I can play well for the club, my country will give me a call-up, I think.
“The potential in this team is unreal. Last year, we struggled a little bit.
“There were a lot of injuries and games that went the other way that could have gone our way.
“Hopefully, we can also get a bit of luck this season without getting loads of injuries, and we can show the world what we are capable of.”
