VIDEO: Dobbo's harsh changeroom words after Connacht escape
WATCH as Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson gave his side a tongue lashing despite their 34-29 bonus point United Rugby Championship win over Connacht.
For the neutral fan, it was a spectacle to watch as both sides ran in four tries each during the first half.
The hosts’ general Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu were responsible for three of the four first half tries with No.8 Evan Roos dotting down the other score.
The Stormers managed to escape with a five point win in the end after Argentina wing Santiago Cordero’s 80th minute try was disallowed due to an obstruction picked up by the TMO in the build-up.
John Dobson delivered that exact message to his side and warned them that they are not championship material if they continue to deliver such erratic performances.
The article continues below …
“That was honestly one of the worst performances in a couple of years,” Dobson said in the changeroom after the final whistle.
“You can give me the cliché’s of five [log] points. That was as close to an embarrassment. We deserved to lose that game.
“We’ve got to change it quickly, because that is not a championship-winning side.
“I know we are capable, that’s an aberration. I’m sorry to be harsh but we also have to accept reality when it’s staring us in the face.
“One TMO decision saved us from our campaign almost ending.”
Captain Salmaan Moerat added: “We know what we need to fix. We showed signs of danger out there and the team that we are.
“For me, that’s the upside of it. But on Dobbo’s point it wasn’t good enough. Let’s accept that.
“Enjoy the five points, it’s the cliché we just mentioned now but we’ve got the crucial five points.
“On Monday we’ll come back in full force and fix it.”
