VIDEO: 'No room for losses' says Grobbies

VIDEO: This season, the Bulls have had their best results away from their fortress, Loftus Versfeld, but heading into the playoffs, winning at home is a non-negotiable, says hooker Johan Grobbelaar.

Losses at home to the Sharks and Stormers earlier in the season still hurt, and Grobbelaar says there can be no slip-ups anymore.

The Bulls have had a near-perfect season and are currently placed second in the United Rugby Championship standings.

This weekend, they host the Dragons, a team that has only managed to win one of their URC games in 17 outings and has the tag of Wales’ worst-performing region this season.

To add insult to injury, one of their stalwarts, Dan Lydiate’s 150th appearance, ended in defeat as his team went down 12-48 to the Stormers last weekend.

But despite the poor showing of the Bulls’ opponent this weekend, Springbok Grobbelaar says they will not go into this encounter underprepared.

“We are working toward an end goal, and that goal is to win the Final.

“[So] we want to give them zero points this weekend because when you play those big matches, there will be no room for errors.

“We are very happy with the position we are in [second], and it makes a massive difference if you can have the playoffs at home.

“There is no room for losses anymore. If we want to make it to the end, we have to win at Loftus,” the hooker stated.

According to the hooker there is no complacency going into this game, and he says he feels everyone is getting more serious the closer they get to the playoffs.

“Maybe this weekend’s game won’t change our position on the log, but it’s important for our form and building confidence as we move into the playoffs.

“No more room for any losses going forward.”

The three-Test Springbok, who made his debut for the national side against Portugal in Bloemfontein last year, says staying with the Boks will require hard work.

“All my focus is now on the Bulls, and I want to play the best rugby for the club.

“And if you tick those boxes, then the selectors will see you.

“You must just give yourself the best chance to be selected for that squad.”
