VIDEO: Stormers defence 'not a big question mark' 

WATCH as Stormers fullback Warrick Gelant address the question around the Stormers’ defensive woes against Connacht this past weekend.

The Capetonians delivered an attacking masterclass against Connacht, scoring five tries in total with three coming from the Player of the Match in flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

The Stormers’ defence, however, was soft and questionable at times, especially in the wider channels.

Connacht winger Shane Jennings grabbed a brace in the first half by exposing the Stormers’ out wide and finding space at will.

Poor exits from restarts and in general play also put the home side under pressure throughout the match which provided attacking opportunities to Connacht.

Gelant, however, believes that it doesn’t leave a big question mark around their defensive system but that the team itself on the day simply were not good enough in that department.

“We’ve conceded five tries [against Connacht]. It’s not a big question mark [the defence]. It’s just not good enough for us [as a group],” Gelant told @rugby365com.

“It’s not something we would say we [necessarily] need to fix, it just wasn’t good enough for us.

“Is Connacht a great attacking side? 100 percent. They asked questions we haven’t faced this season.

“We had some personnel back and we made tweaks in our defensive systems which were challenged, and Connacht did an amazing job being brilliant on attack.

“Defence will always be a work-on because of how different the opposition are each week.

“This week will provide a different challenge with players that own different skillsets.

“We will try and stop Benetton in the best possible way and not allow them to also score five tries.”
