VIDEO: The 'spanner' in the works Bulls must address
WATCH as Bulls loose forward Marcell Coetzee talks about an issue that his side had this season ahead of their United Rugby Championship Final clash against Leinster.
The Bulls, for a second year running, have been South Africa’s best-performing team, thanks to their powerful forward dominance, strong kicking game, and smooth attacking brilliance.
There is one area for concern however which is a big no-no for any side playing in a Final, and that is their discipline.
The Bulls have conceded the most yellow cards (19) and red cards (4) this season to go with 193 penalties.
Last week in their semifinal against the Sharks they were down to 12 players at one stage when three of their players were sent to the sin-bin in quick succession.
Former Bulls captain Marcell Coetzee admitted that his side had been caught on the wrong side of the law this season on too many occasions and stressed that they addressed the issue ahead of the big dance at Croke Park.
The article continues below…
“It’s something we addressed as a squad,” Coetzee said.
“It just makes things harder for you when you play against a quality side like Leinster.
“You can’t afford to have one or two guys in the [sin] bin.
“You need all the feet on the pitch and it’s going to take the [whole team’s] work rate to stop their onslaught.
“You don’t want to let the guy next to you down by being reckless.
“That and soft moments are what we need to cut out in our game and just keep building on our DNA that’s been working for us this whole season.”
