VIDEO: White sheds light on Wiese injury

INJURY UPDATE: Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White provided an update on Cobus Wiese’s latest injury setback following his side’s 55-15 United Rugby Championship victory over the Dragons.

The result assured the Bulls second place in the URC standings, securing the Pretoria-based outfit a potential home semifinal.

Lock Cobus Wiese was substituted halfway through the first half after showing some discomfort and White revealed that the injury wasn’t as serious as it initially appeared.

“He’s got a back spasm. Apparently, he got it in the warm-up. I told him if he gets a back spasm and scores 40 metre tries he can do it every weekend,” White jokingly said.

“Again it’s precautionary. When he said his back was a bit sore, I didn’t want a guy to get a referred [pain] like tearing a hamstring etc, so I took him off.

“The doctor reckons he’ll be fine if he does the right treatments for the next two weeks.

“Someone asked me if not playing next week is a blessing, on a guy like that it’s fantastic that we get another week to get our squad ready [for the quarterfinals].”
