World Cup winning coach joins Ospreys
The Ospreys have added former Wales skills coach Gareth Williams to their coaching staff.
Williams takes up the role of Academy and Transition Skills Coach, focusing on player development and easing young talent into senior rugby.
Williams, who is one of the few coaches in the country with a World Cup winners medal having helped Wales Sevens lift the title in 2009, has been a key figure in Welsh rugby over the past decade.
Williams served as Head Coach of Wales under-20 and led the WRU’s transitional player programme before stepping into Wayne Pivac’s Wales senior setup as skills coach in 2021.
Speaking about his new role, Williams said he was excited to work with the Ospreys’ next generation.
“The club has a rich history of producing international players and I’m looking forward to playing my part in that.”
“There is a great group of young talent coming through and the chance to work with them is what excites me most.”
Ospreys head coach Mark Jones welcomed the appointment, highlighting Williams’ pedigree.
“Having someone with Gareth’s CV focusing on our developing players will be hugely beneficial.”
“As a club we place huge value on developing our homegrown talent and Gareth has already made a noticeable impact in his short time here.”
