Armentum into Last Four

Huis Armentum from the Free State University gained a home semifinal spot in the 2009 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships by virtue of their fine 29-0 win over the NMMU Barbarians at the PE campus on Monday night after leading 15-0 at half-time.

The Free Staters collected a full haul of five points to top the log with 15 points from their three matches.

Though soundly beaten, the NMMU Barbarians managed to qualify for the semifinal with eight points and will now be involved in an away play-off match.

The impressive displays put up by the Free Staters throughout the competition has earmarked them as favourites to take the title at the conclusion of the tournament.

They managed tries by wing Gareth Lourens, flyhalf Inus Kritzinger, scrumhalf Enrico Schultz and replacement wing Janniman Kotze.

Flyhalf Kritzinger succeeded with a penalty and three conversions in the difficult windy conditions.

Captain HF Pretorius gave a sterling display and led by example.

For NMMU, flank Bonga Jantjies and hooker Werner Kapp played their hearts out.
