Nadoes star covering for Habana
Former Steinhoff Tornadoes star Marcel Brache – a member of the title-winning Nadoes side of last year – will make his provincial debut for Western Province this coming weekend, as a replacement for none other than Bryan Habana.
Brache, 22, was arguably the Newcomer of the Year in the 2010 Varsity Cup – his silky skills, hot-stepping and deadly defence (not to mention his ‘part-time’ goalkicking) marking him as a future star.
But those obvious playing qualities aside, his rise this year has been nothing short of spectacular – considering that just 365 days ago he was simply a full-time Nadoes player… and on tour in Plettenberg Bay.
Of course, now, he will wear the Western Province No.11 jersey – normally worn in Cape Town by Bryan Habana – and he could just put himself, and the Nadoes, on the map. Uchacha!!
* Brache will be joined in the WP line-up – against the Griffins in Welkom – by fellow UCT stars; lock Martin Muller and centre Tim Whitehead.
The Western Province team: 15 Conrad Jantjes, 14 Fabian Juries, 13 Tim Whitehead, 12 Paul Bosch, 11 Marcel Brache, 10 Willem de Waal, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Rynardt Elstadt, 6 Pieter Louw, 5 Anton van Zyl (captain), 4 Adriaan Fondse, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 Wicus Blaauw.
Replacements (from): Deon Fourie, JD Moller, JC Kritzinger, Martin Muller, Pieter Myburgh, Conrad Hoffmann, Lionel Cronjé, Morgan Newman.
